Workshop Details
Classes meet once per week from 11am-2pm on Tuesdays from October 14-December 9 (no class Nov 25). This class is for potters who have experience. Exact projects will be determined on day 1, but throughout the class the emphasis will be on refining lip, foot and balance. Working towards mastery of throwing efficiently, wheel throwing and altered and timing for handbuilding. A sample schedule is below: 1. Pitchers and throwing tall 2. Attaching handles and spouts, trimming narrow mouth Items 3. Moon jars, connecting two pieces to make a large pot 4. Carving and sgraffito 5. Box construction (including a display of slabs at different levels of dryness ) 6. Throwing/building a lidded form (teapot prep) 7. Teapot pieces and attaching 8. Glaze show and tell During the 3-hour weekly lesson, there will be a demonstration followed by individual guidance while you practice creating. We will focus on wheel throwing skills, although I will offer handbuilding projects by request. You can work solely on the wheel, solely work on handbuilding or try both, it is up to you! This class will cover the different stages of clay, the glazing process and a discussion of firing methods. Fee Includes: Glazes, firing (up to 600 cubic inches), and open studio hours. Clay and basic tool set are not included (approximately $55 for both). Open studio is 1 day per week to come practice what you learn in class without instruction. Please note: Tool sets ($25) are only required for working on the wheel. 600 cubic inches of firing is included in your class fee. This is about 12 cups, or 8 cups and two bowls. Above 600 cubic inches is charged at $.06 per cubic inch. We will go over how to track this, but you don't need to worry about it until the 3rd or 4th class. Bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty, a journal, a snack, and your water bottle. If you must miss a class, let me know and I'll do my best to get you caught up, but it is dependent on space in other classes. Please try to attend the first 3 classes of the session as this is where we cover wheel throwing fundamentals. *Note that wheel throwing is more challenging with long finger nails- you may wish to consider short nails while learning to throw clay. Cancellation Policy
Fees are refundable up to 7 days before the workshop. Unfortunately I cannot accommodate refunds after that time. If the class is cancelled for weather or some reason on my end, your fee will transfer to another workshop of your choice or be refunded if necessary.
